On May 31, 2018, Professor Anming Meng was awarded the 2018 Special Contribution Award of School of Life Sciences.
Professor Meng graduated from Southwestern Agricultural University in 1983 and received a doctorate in genetics from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 1991. He was postdoctoral fellow and associate professor of Beijing Agricultural University, visiting scholar of Medical College of Georgia. After returning to China in 1998, he has been a professor in School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University (formerly the Department of Biological Science and Biotechnology). In 2007, Professor Meng was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the whole 20 years of his career in Tsinghua, Professor Meng has become one of the pioneers of molecular development biology in China. 2004, in collaboration with Professor Yeguang Chen’s team, he published an article in Science entitled "Zebrafish Dpr2 inhibits mesoderm induction by promoting lysosomal degradation of Nodal receptors." as the first in the history of our school, which has greatly improved the academic status of Tsinghua in the field of life science and laid a solid foundation for the development of the school.
The special Contribution Award of Tsinghua College of Life Sciences was established in 2010 to recognize people who made outstanding contributions to the establishment and development of the school. Successive winners include Nanming Zhao, Muming Poo, Changxue Zheng, Xiufang Zhang, Haimeng Zhou, Shiquan Bao, Senfang Sui and Yigong Shi.
